Build Out : C&T on 9th
It's coming up on 3 years to the day that we first opened our doors as Coffee & Tea Collective on El Cajon Blvd in North Park. Two years before that we were roasting wherever we could on our small 5lb sample roaster and hitting up every local San Diego event, party, music show, and art opening that would have us. The conversation about third-wave, specialty coffee roasting in San Diego was far behind every other major city in America. When we drove up to a small town in Nevada to test out, pay for and arrange the shipping of our current 12 kilo San Franciscan roaster we had no idea what the future had in store aside for us as individual or as a brand. We were however, sure of one thing: we were determined to provide San Diego with the best quality product and to do that consistently.
We opened our doors to whoever would pass through, listen to us talk about our passion and share the complete coffee experience with us. Our goal has always been to stay true to how we got where we are, to the people who helped us get here and constantly give back to the community that supports us. Within the 3 years of being on The Boulevard we have seen the area change drastically and for the better by bringing in more locally owned, small businesses that care about what they do. Our neighbors at The Homebrewer, Gym Standard, Tiger! Tiger! and Freshly Faded Barber Shop can all speak to the drastic change that has happened within our community.
We're excited to have the opportunity to expand through the support of one community and share our passion and communal experiences to another. We began the process of building up a second location in East Village of Downtown SD in late November. We saw the same potential for a growing community of folks who care about their products just as we saw it on El Cajon Blvd years ago. Our goal for this new East Village location will stay true to our roots of the arts, music and creative community.
We're still working day in and day out to get this space up and running and can't wait to share it with you all. Here's a sneak peek at some of what is in the works. Our target open date is the second week of February 2015.
