Coffee & Tea Collective is a group of people who care about quality coffee and tea. We are determined to share our passion with others and encourage the growth of a blooming coffee culture in San Diego and beyond. We started out in 2010, roasting in a garage and brewing pour over coffee at local events. In 2012 we opened our flagship Roastery + Tasting Bar off of 30th St. and El Cajon Blvd. The Boulevard has proven to be the perfect place to develop our coffee skills and invest in a wonderful, growing community. In 2015 we took the same passion and drive to East Village where we opened our second tasting bar. It has been quite the journey thus far and we are truly grateful to be a part of such a fantastic city and greater coffee community.
Coffee is the seed of a fruit that grows at high elevations in tropical regions of the world. A very small portion of coffee produced is known as specialty coffee. These are delicious, sweet and clean coffees with unique character and a lot of life. We work very closely with coffee importers, that travel to the source, to bring us fresh and seasonal coffees. After tasting up to 20 different coffees from one single country of origin, we select a few stand out coffees that we feel best represent the origin characteristic: land, variety and season.
Roasting coffee is a very intricate process that requires years of tasting, experimenting and disciplined note taking. When it comes to roasting coffee, our approach is simple. Less is more. By roasting our coffees lightly, we put more emphasis on the origin characteristic and rely less on roast characteristic. Our coffees are not roasty or smokey, but are defined by balanced flavor, sweetness and acidity, inherent to each country of origin.
